Overview
In 2018, 1-Group acquired The Alkaff Mansion, a historically significant but abandoned estate built in 1916. The mansion had hosted numerous high-society events but had ceased operations in 2015. My team and I were tasked with revitalizing the brand and transforming it into a romantic dining and wedding lifestyle destination.
Result
The Alkaff Mansion quickly became a highly sought-after wedding venue, achieving a 90% booking rate for weddings within the first year. Our branding efforts led to a 45% increase in social media following and a 30% boost in engagement within the first six months, significantly enhancing the venue’s online presence and brand recognition. The Alkaff Mansion successfully transformed into a multi-concept venue, attracting a diverse range of events, including the highest-level Ministry of Foreign Affairs meeting between Singapore and Italy, showcasing its prestige and appeal for high-profile occasions. Additionally, the venue saw a 20% increase in event inquiries from corporate clients and wedding planners within the first year.

Context
The Alkaff Mansion, a heritage site in Telok Blangah Hill, needed to be restored and rebranded after years of disuse. The mansion was previously converted into a restaurant in 2010 but ceased operations by 2015. In 2018, the lease was acquired by 1-Group, and I was tasked with the rebranding project to restore its former glory while positioning it as a romantic destination for weddings and lifestyle events.
Problem
The challenge was to breathe new life into an abandoned property with historical significance, ensuring it appealed to modern couples and event organizers while honoring its legacy. Additionally, the brand needed to stand out in a competitive wedding and events market.
Design Process
We focused on preserving The Alkaff Mansion’s historical significance while giving it a modern, elegant brand identity. Through extensive market research and competitor analysis, we developed a cohesive visual language that resonated with the target audience. By collaborating with various teams—spanning architecture, interior design, sales, and marketing—we ensured that every aspect of the rebranding reflected the mansion’s luxurious and romantic appeal. The result was a unified and compelling brand experience that elevated The Alkaff Mansion as a premier wedding and lifestyle destination.
We chose to keep the original name, The Alkaff Mansion, to honor its historical significance and heritage. We conducted extensive market research to understand the preferences of our target audience and analyze competitors. Drawing inspiration from luxury brands, we established a premium and elegant brand identity.
FINAL DESIGN
The branding direction focused on elegance and luxury, using a refined color palette and sophisticated typography. The visual identity was designed to appeal to modern couples looking for a romantic and upscale venue while also attracting high-profile events.
Learning outcome
Through this project, I learned the importance of cross-functional collaboration to achieve a unified brand experience. Managing feedback from multiple teams and ensuring alignment across departments was key to successfully transforming the venue into a wedding and lifestyle destination. Additionally, understanding how to balance modern branding with historical significance was a valuable lesson in preserving heritage while catering to contemporary tastes.
